# Secret management

## Read a secret

Use the discovered SecretsController address and `keyManagement` read helpers to inspect ownership, delegate, sync state, cluster, type, and public-key CID.

## Create a secret

```typescript
const fee = await keyManagement.getSecretCreationFee({
  chainId,
  controllerAddress,
  readClient: sdk.readClient,
});
const intent = keyManagement.buildCreateSecretTx({
  chainId,
  controllerAddress,
  fee,
});
```

Submit the intent through the user's wallet, wait for the receipt, and parse the creation event to obtain the secret ID.

## Wait until ready

A successful transaction does not mean encryption keys are already available. Poll the secret state or use the high-level creation flow until `isSyncing` becomes false.

## Delegate access

```typescript
const intent = keyManagement.buildSetDelegateTx({
  chainId,
  controllerAddress,
  secretId,
  newDelegate,
});
```

A delegate can decrypt but cannot transfer the secret or appoint another delegate. Removing delegation revokes future authorization; it cannot make already decrypted data unknown again.

## Transfer ownership

Ownership transfer changes who can manage and decrypt the secret. Confirm the destination carefully and design an application-level recovery policy before exposing this operation.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://cifer.gitbook.io/cifer-docs/documentation/cifer-sdk/web3-integration/secret-management.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
